A news article in the June 14, 2011 edition of the Denver Post discusses a new report that has been released revealing that many Denver Police Officers have not been arrested for Driving Under the Influence based on their position within the police force.
Since 2005, says the report, Denver Police Department have arrested only five of their own police officers for DUI, which is a statistic far below the number of private citizens arrested based on the same time frame. The report also states that police departments outside Denver County are not reluctant to arrest Denver Police Officers for DUI, as the percentages point to the numbers being relatively equal to the amount of private citizens being arrested.
While this report has hit the news media, a spokesman for the Denver Police Union has cast doubt on the legitimacy of the report, stating it is a smear campaign against the Denver Police Department, and does not show that Denver Police Officers give preferential treatment to their own brethren when it comes to DUI incidents.
